Today, we rise early for our active day, with a 45 journey by car to the village of Chinchero. Chinchero is a town made up by several communities and whose main income comes from textiles and tourism.

Here we can partake in a weaving demonstration, learn about indigenous medicinal plants and see the ancestral way of life of Andean People.  Enjoy your time with the local people of Peru, after this you will ascend to Allpachaca, at 12,000 feet elevation; where we begin our mountain bike tour.  We will ride for about 3-4 hours, up and down past beautiful Piuray Lake and the local farms and villages until we reach the community of Tauca (12,664 feet) we will have lunch there and , settled into your community campsite where you will stay for the night. Overnight camping.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner

After breakfast in Camp site, we begin our trek to the Queñua Sundur Valley.  Today’s Peru hiking tour totals 8 miles in length, and our gear is carried by horses. Along the way, we will visit several archaeological sites rarely visited by outsiders including Kinsa Salayo.  Enjoy sensational views of the Sacred Valley and the Urubamba Mountains with their impressive glaciers.  We will camp tonight near Huchuy Qosqo.  Our guides will set up camp and make dinner for us as we relax and enjoy the sites of the ruins of Huchuy Qosqo, known as “Little Cusco.”

Overnight camping.

Breakfast, lunch

Rising early, we will explore the ruins of Huchuy Qosqo with our guides.  This “Little Cusco” is inaccessible by public road, making it one of the least visited major ruins in the area.  After exploring the ruins, we will hike down to Lamay (approximately 3 miles), descending into the Sacred Valley.  On the trail to Lamay we will see towering Andean peaks and smaller ruins in the distance.  Our driver will be waiting for us at the end of the trail to take us to the train station in Ollantaytambo. The train follows the Urubamba River as it tumbles its way towards the Amazon and the sacred city of Machu Picchu.  We arrive to Machu Picchu Pueblo (formerly called Aguas Calientes) to relax, enjoy dinner (the trout fillets are delicious), and prepare for our Machu Picchu tours tomorrow.

Visit the bars along the railroad tracks to share stories with some of the hikers who successfully completed the Inca Trail, or end your fantastic day relaxing the muscles in the hot springs.

IMPORTANT TIP

If you do want to see the beautiful scenery and ancient buildings of Machu Picchu, book your trip early. The Peruvian government has placed a limit on the number of people allowed to hike the trails to the citadel per day. Be sure to book your tickets well in advance. The high season tends to book up quickly!

Breakfast

The “Lost City of the Incas” is one of the most spectacular and breathtaking places on earth and a place that retains its mystery, charm and mystical attractive, despite its enormous popularity. Exploring the place remains an exciting experience, especially at sunrise, when the scenic rays of light spread over the Andean peaks.

We drive up to the ruins in time for the opening and savor the views and the atmosphere as the light changes as the sun rises. We have the rest of the morning to explore the ruins with your guide and perhaps walk up the famous Inca Trail to the ‘Gateway of The Sun’ (Inti Punku) or hike the Huayna Picchu Mountain for the best view of Machu Picchu. During the afternoon we descend from the archeological site to the railway station, and embark on the afternoon train, which slowly winds its way through the Andean countryside to Ollantaytambo where we transfer to our vehicle for the drive back to our hotel in Cusco. (the hiking permits for Huayna Picchu are not included, please ask our staff if you would like to include it, remember that it sell out in advance).
